Trauma and EMDR
EMDR is a treatment modality that uses the body’s own ability to reprocess past traumatic memories and upsetting life moments.

Treatments for Traumas
Sometimes, when we experience a traumatic event, the brain stores the event and everything associated with it as one memory. The sights, sounds, smells, images, and physical sensations are lumped together and, over time, anything that even remotely resembles the “event” may become a “trigger.”
For example, a person who experienced a specific traumatic event may not remember all of the sights, sounds, smells, and sensations that happened in the moment(s) the event occurred. The brain, however, has stored those elements of sight, sound, smell and sensations, and possibly the physical pain associated with any injuries. Years later, this same person may experience a physiological symptom, such as nausea and not understand the origin of this sudden onset of symptoms.
EMDR is a treatment modality that uses the body’s own ability to reprocess past traumatic memories and upsetting life moments. EMDR mimics the eye movements experienced during REM sleep. In that place of dreaming, the brain reprocesses the day’s events. Using EMDR light, sound or other rhythmic tapping motions, I assist patients with reprocessing the traumatic or upsetting memories so that triggers do not produce the same symptoms and distress.
Emotional problems and destructive behavioral patterns are impossible to overcome when fueled by the ongoing influence of trauma.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a technique designed to remove the profound effects of prior traumatic experiences. It is considered a cutting-edge treatment to help rewire the brain.
EMDR is effective in facilitating the elimination of pain from trauma, even when events are repressed or forgotten. Unconscious conflicts blocking desired change are identified, resolved and cleared out.
